The application also includes a set of add-ins for Windows Media Center Edition 2005, which controls the MCE Video Encoder application. This therefore allows users to not only set up and control video streams from their Windows Media Center PC, but also control and view the streams from a Media Center Extender, including an Xbox 360.
Features of the MCE Video Encoder include an add-in that enables the user to start and stop streaming from their Xbox 360, rather than their PC, meaning that they never need to leave their seat. Another popular feature is the pause and unpause streaming add-in, allowing movie watchers to pause, fast forward and rewind their film – they no longer need to start watching on their Xbox from beginning each time if they need to take a break from the movie. This is a unique feature that is not available on other products.
Commenting on the software, Gary Stimson, the developer behind Lightning Ware Solutions said, “I was inspired to develop the MCE Video Encoder because I wanted to be able to watch my existing movie collection from every room in the house. Rather than building extra PC’s, which would have proved costly, I developed this software. I decided to make it widely available, free of charge so that everyone could enjoy the benefits.”
The MCE Video Encoder is continually evolving to incorporate a range of new features. For a complete list of current features, click here.
